How Mimi’s Using The SCD Diet To Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

by Jordan Reasoner

One of the most powerful tools there is when it comes to getting our health back isn’t the perfect diet or all the right supplements…

It’s our attitude.

I know, we get it – a positive attitude may be the last thing on your mind when you’re sick….

But it could be the difference between getting your health back and staying sick.

Steve, myself and Mimi – we all had major setbacks on the road to getting healthy.

And it was a positive attitude that gave us the strength to keep moving forward – to keep tweaking, adjusting and adapting.

When those thoughts of negativity crept in, it was Mimi’s can-do attitude that gave her the strength to make that one life-changing adjustment.

The adjustment that helped her overcome IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and Type 2 Diabetes.

If you’ve lost hope, can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, or are just plain tired of being sick, this story is for you.

IBS And Diabetes Controlled My Life

Four years ago, I was dealing with major symptoms of Type 2 diabetes and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). This included everything from terrible stomach pain, high blood pressure, exhaustion, itchy skin, blood sugar swings and depression to more digestive issues and bouts of confusion.

The digestive issues got so bad that I couldn’t get through the day without running to a bathroom in severe pain. (I actually had periodic stomach issues as far back as 10 years ago, but didn’t pay attention as I should have.)

I Ended Up In The Emergency Room

One day, the principal at our school sent me home due to her observation that I seemed tired and not able to watch the young kindergarten children in my care. I left very upset and drove straight to my doctors office, where they encouraged me to go straight to the emergency room.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, as my blood sugar was almost 600 mg/dl. While at the hospital, I experienced three grand mal seizures and almost died.

It is only by the grace of God that I survived that period of my life.

I Spent The Next Year In And Out Of Doctor’s Offices

Over the course of the next year, I had to see a neurologist for the seizures, a metabolic doctor for the diabetes, a family doctor for depression and anxiety and a gastroenterologist for my stomach.

Whew!

While at the gastroenterologist, I had a colonoscopy and was diagnosed with IBS.

Depression was also taking over my life, so I saw a therapist to sort out all my stress and anxiety (which I know has played a big part in all of my health issues).

Somehow, through all of this, I kept telling myself “I will get better” as I searched for a new diet and lifestyle.

Enter The SCD Diet…

I started researching how to help diabetes and stomach issues and that’s when I found the SCD Diet. I read the book “Breaking the Vicious Cycle” and decided to jump in.

The following tools helped me heal:

The intro diet took awhile before I got the hang of it, but I stuck with it. I wanted it to be a quick fix at first, and I now know that health isn’t about quick fixes.

My Life Today

My stomach issues have improved, but as always it’s a work in progress.

My diabetes is almost to the point of reversal – I’m just so close to not having it! Over the last two years, my blood sugar is regularly in the 73 to 77 mg/dl range. A1C (blood test measuring average blood glucose) is 5.3 and I need two more visits with my A1C under 6.0 to technically be considered out of the diabetic range.

I have not had to take any diabetic medication for three years – it’s all controlled with diet. The doctors are amazed at my progress!

The IBS symptoms have certainly improved and I know I’m on the right road to full recovery. The pain is no longer a part of my daily life and my weight is stable.

I am still on this journey of healing, but I am proud of all my small successes along the way.

I’m so grateful to SCD Lifestyle for helping me get my life back.
