Most people with undiagnosed Celiac disease have trouble keeping weight on. Before I was diagnosed, it didn’t seem to matter how much I ate, I kept losing weight.

But it doesn’t always unfold that way.

Kimmy experienced the opposite problem – she had stubborn weight that she couldn’t lose, no matter what she did.

She had other health complaints too – bad teeth, depression, kidney problems – but they all seemed unconnected.

It wasn’t until she was properly diagnosed with Celiac disease (after 33 years of symptoms!) that Kimmy was able to heal her gut, get healthy, and lose the weight.

But more importantly, she got rid of the brain fog and depression that had plagued her since she was a teenager.

Life as a Sick Child

I remember having diarrhea as a kid and always having an upset stomach. I was called a bird eater my whole life and was very picky. I started getting oral surgery at age 7, as I had horrible teeth as a child.

(At the time I had no idea, but I now know this is all related.)

Searching For an Answer, I Turned to Pills

At 17, I was showing signs of renal inflammation and urinary issues, which resulted in a prescription medication.

I was in boarding school and on medications for depression. Of course, this really shut down my impulse control, as these pills are addictive and very damaging to consciousness and can give a false sense of reality.

Depression Took a Hold of Me

By the time I was 21, I was severely depressed. I was told I was schizophrenic, so I fell even deeper into a depression. I ended up on Invega, an antipsychotic drug for schizophrenia that caused me to sleep 20 hours a day.

I was suicidal and had a hard time being present for my children.

Now that I look back, I see the medications had a negative influence on me and made things much worse.

I was completely toxic! I could not even remember to take a shower and was nearly 300 lbs.

My Emergency Room Visit Ended with a Diagnosis – Finally

One night, I ended up in the emergency room with diarrhea and stomach and kidney pain. My whole body, including my brain, just hurt. Lights were too much for me, people came too often for me, and I just did not feel well.

I saw doctor after doctor and ended up getting a biopsy done.

The doctor’s office followed up with me and said the results of the biopsy “suggest you have Celiac Disease.”

(I had no clue what that meant, I just knew it wasn’t cancer.)

Then, they had me meet with a nurse who told me to “just eat gluten free” (as if it were this simple). In a way, to be told I had Celiac sprue was almost like I had been told I was going to die.

How would I explain this Celiac thing to my family and friends?

Finding SCD Lifestyle Saved My Life

I suffered from Celiac disease my whole life and was not diagnosed until I was 33 years old!

I had no idea all of my symptoms were related to this condition, I just knew I didn’t feel well.

After searching for a better answer, I ended up finding SCD Lifestyle. I immediately decided to jump right in.

In the beginning, it was really hard. I was used to eating 3 to 4 donuts or 2 bowls of cereal every morning for breakfast.

To say the least, my diet was not good.

The webinars, meal plans, and overall support gave me the education I needed to make lifelong changes. I learned to actually read ingredient labels and understand what I was putting into my body. I learned how to finally take care of myself.

I began to cleanse every aspect of my life – from my family and friends to my bowels and my heart.

At the 3-month mark, I started to notice a BIG difference. I began losing the weight, the brain fog was no longer ruling my life, and I started becoming more aware of my surroundings.

I was on tons of medications, and I began to slowly taper off of those as well.

My energy is back and so is my life – I feel great! In total, I’ve lost over 100 pounds and am loving life. I’m actually feeling it at a much deeper level than ever before.

I was diagnosed approximately 30 yrs ago after a life-long struggle. My problem is that although I strictly adhere to the gluten free diet, I suffer from extreme weight loss and cannot regain it. Very depressing. Any help or suggestions.

I have been diagnosed with gluten sensitivity, probably evolved into Celiac disease. Initially I had the classic symptoms- brain fog, GI discomfort, gas, bloating, anxiety, depression, challenging weight gain, constipation. I was able to reset by doing the 28 day cleanse when I lost 23 pounds. fast forward, i’m gluten-free . I had a son who is now three years with some inherited sensitivities. I immediately lost all of my weight probably three months after giving birth. We are on an organic diet but the symptoms are creeping back up again and my weight is off the charts. I’m starting to find that the gluten-free options are high calories so I need to change something
