No Food Is Safe, The One Shopping Mistake Most Make

“OUCH!” I screamed.

“I told you it was too hot,” said my mom.

How many times did I not listen and burn myself?

Plenty.

Now, I’m bit older, a bit wiser (not much), but enough to actually trust her when she gives me a safety tip.

Not everyone that we try to help is ready for our message… just like I wasn’t as a kid.

But for those who are, I want to share with you a huge mistake that Jordan and I made several times… and hopefully it will save you money and shorten your healing time. If not, we will at least help you understand how to not to get scammed when you go shopping.

You see, there is this “ingredient” (if you can really call it that), that’s actually so mysterious that using quotes is very “appropriate.” Oops, did it again. No, but seriously this “thing” is now found in almost every product in the grocery store.

Nuts? ya.

Meat? yep.

Butter? unfortunately…

Water? I know ridiculous right?

This “thing” if you will (because it’s not really food by my standards) is in all kinds of foods that we might normally think were natural and safe to buy. I’m talking about foods even labeled Organic! Regrettably, the truth is nothing is safe anymore, and the worst part is the laws don’t even protect us. And as a mindful shopper, we can’t ever really know what the “thing” is when we find it on the label.

This outrages me, not only do corporations get to add processed ingredients to perfectly fine natural foods, but they get to use a “code name” for it. (Okay, I’ll stop with the quotes.)

After reading your post about “natural flavorings” I did a search on Google about butter, and came up with some interesting discussions. Keller’s Creamery relates on their website that one of the additives to butter can be lactic acid which, if I recall from reading E. Gottschall, is really bad for the gut (at least it is when the body produces it). So I found this link on how to make your own butter:

I tried it, and it’s amazingly simple. A food processor turns 2 cups of cream into butter in 4 minutes. Then you rinse out all the extra liquid with ice water and you’re good to go! We’ll see if it makes any difference. Thanks again for the informative posts, I always look forward to them.

I bought the SCD earlier this year, and found the support amazing, they sent regular emails with interesting new info to keep you up to date. I thought I had a bowel problem but as it turned out I have endometriosis, so I asked for my money back and they gave it back, no questions asked. I was very impressed and highly recommend this to anyone – they are people who just want to help and aren’t greedy money grabbers. Thanks so much Jordan and Steve 🙂
