SCD Lifestyle 2.0 Is Here

by Jordan Reasoner

(This post was from our last blog update – but we’ve been working hard and just finished another facelift… subtle but needed)

Today I’m excited to officially unveil the new blog layout.  It’s been a few weeks of blood, sweat, and tears and now it’s finally here.

If you want to help us create the best resource to help people take control of their health and reclaim their lives, read on and find out how…

Our old blog was so ridiculous.  I’ll never forget how we wanted it be perfect and we had this image in our head’s of what that would look like.  We even hired programmers to build it for us and it took almost a month for them to finish.

But, it was a looooooong way from perfect.

I still remember when we first published it in early 2010.  I was so proud, I sent the link to my entire family grinning like an idiot.

All I cared about was having a blog about the SCD Diet that people could read. That was perfection for me.  But what’s interesting is that once I accomplished that goal the blog started to lose it’s appeal very quickly.

Sometimes perfection isn’t really what it seems.

The Perfect Diet

When my Doctor first told me about the SCD Diet I was infused with a renewed sense of hope, so I immediately bought “Breaking the Vicious Cycle” and read the whole thing that night.

But it seemed daunting. I went on to research the diet for 3 weeks trying to decide if it was worth trying or not.  What was I stuck on?

  • Elaine mentioned that many people can go off the diet after 1 year and return to normal foods and I just plain didn’t believe it.
  • I already changed my diet once and it didn’t work
  • I had a genetic disease, so what did diet have to do with it?
  • There was no way my family would buy into it

But after talking it over with my wife I realized that for me, perfection didn’t have to be a “cure”.  Perfection meant three things:

  1. Not having diarrhea everyday
  2. Being able to hold a poop for 30 seconds
  3. Not taking 10 Imodium AD just to go see a movie

Once I realized what my “perfect” was, the mountain got a whole lot smaller.

What’s your vision of ideal health?

We always ask people what their “vision of health” is… and you’d be suprised, it’s NEVER “to be completely cured”.  It’s ALWAYS about those things that make life miserable… like these:

“My goal is to stop the bleeding and the mucus.” – Rebekah

“Being in control of when I go to the toilet.” – Mike

“No more diarrhea/bloody stool/constant gas, more energy and strength” – Paul

“Off medication. Feeling strong. Having energy.” – Alyse

Your vision of health will always be changing.

In the beginning I just wanted to be able to hold a poop for more than 30 seconds, now I get cranky if I’m a little gassy.

In the beginning I just wanted a blog on the web, now I want it to be the best resource people have to take control of their health and reclaim their lives.

As we grow and change the moving target of perfection keeps us improving.  Whether its your health or athletics or some blog on the web.

The key is taking the first step.  And if I never took the first step to stop the diarrhea, I never would have the level of health I have now.

If we never started this blog together, we never would have had the opportunity to help you feel better.

So, as we grow together, can you help us make this a better resource, so we can help you take control of your health?

Here’s How:

Carmen,
I am sorry too. I’m not sure where you are at in life, but I am 20. I am in college full-time and am very involved on campus. Even I took it upon myself to start the diet. I completely believe everyone can start the diet, if they want to be healthy. I make time for the diet and haven’t had any illegal food in 8 months. You can do it! My email is [email protected]. Email me if you want. Also, Jordan and Steve’s book is a great resource for beginners!!! 🙂 There is also a yahoo group with many, many members called btvc. Questions and answers are exchanged all day in that group.

p.s. Great job Jordan and Steve 🙂

LOVE the new site! Incredible job putting all this together in a relatively short time. I especially like the “success stories” section and hope that it turns into a huge documentation of SCD successes!
Would also love a section on medical perspectives on SCD. Maybe send out emails to gastros, and a variety of healthcare practioners who are and aren’t familar with SCD. Ask them to respond with a quotable stance on their IBD standard protocols and their knowledge/response to SCD. I think that would be so informative and likely would end up educating many healthcare providers. An idea for your consideration…
Thanks for the great webiste and all the info!
